I had the opportunity to look after some lambs at Waimarama Beach this last weekend. Waimarama is about 40 minutes from where I live in Haumoana, but it seems longer because it's very isolated and a very windy road to get there. The lambs, Poppy and Boo, required two bottle feedings per day and kept up steady baaing if I was one minute late in getting their food to them. Greedy little buggers!

Rugby World Cup 2007
Rugby World Cup has beg
un. In honor of this revered event we got to wear our team’s colors to work on Friday. Even though the All Blacks seem much more awe-inspiring, I decided to be patriotic and wear the Eagle colors-red, white and blue (yes, the USA does have a rugby team). We played our first game against England on Sunday. We were thrashed, but we went down fighting! Go Eagles! I didn’t even know the US had a rugby team until a few months ago. When I mention the Eagles around here, I’m just given pitying looks. There are high hopes for the All Blacks this year. The last time they won the World Cup was 20 years ago. The rehab unit is decorated in black streamers and black balloons all down the corridor. One brave Aussie put up one green balloon; however, it was promptly popped! I think next Friday when we can again wear our team colors I may just wear black. that way I don’t have to try and coordinate so many colors.

Brilliant!
September 1st marked the first day of spring. I'm moving into my second season here in New Zealand. I have now been here for 3 months! Some times it seems like I've been here longer, but most of
the time I have to ask myself, "Am I really living in New Zealand?" Life here is now starting to settle into a routine. I find myself using words such as, "Lovely," "Brilliant!" "Cheers," "Biscuit," and "Bugger," which were never part of my vocabulary before. I'm now used to seeing sheep everywhere, and also enjoy them as a meal! (Although, since the lambs have started appearing in the fields I've decreased my lambchop intake.) I've learned never to say a
nything bad about the sacred All Blacks rugby team or I will have committed treason against the whole of New Zealand. People appreviate as many words as they can here-"sunnies," "drinkies," "lippies" even to the point of appreviating the word itself, "apprev!"
Spring is turning out to be a beautiful season and I can't wait to see what the rest of the seasons have in store for me. I hope that no matter how long I live here, I never lose the sense of wonder at all the beauty surrounding me.
